What’s your favorite part of your role on staff?

My wife likes to describe me as a “socially well-adjusted” introvert,” and I think that describes my favorite part of pastoral ministry: spending time in reading and study (of the Bible, of theology, of the culture we live in, and so much more), but also knowing and getting to be with people. My perfect day would give me a few hours in study and even more hours meeting and talking with people (new or familiar) about what the Lord is doing in their lives. (All of which would include copious amounts of coffee.)


What do you like to do for fun?

Spending time with people and reading books (both while drinking coffee) are high on the list! But I also loving listening to music (pretty much any genre) and playing music when I can (piano). I enjoy sports (especially college basketball and football), but more for the chance it gives me to be with friends — I don’t really track with any teams! In recent years, I’ve really been enjoying strategy board games that friends have been introducing me to. And while I’m really just an amateur hack, I enjoy doing graphic design.

What’s your favorite Bible verse, and why?

First verses I ever memorized as a young follower of Jesus: “Teach me your ways, O Lord; show me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.” (Ps. 25:4-5)

I read this at a time when God was opening the Bible for me in amazing ways, teaching me who he was for the first time

Andy Kim

What is your favorite part of your role on staff?

I love that our church is a singing church that sings really loudly. As a worship leader, it’s an incredible feeling when you’re on stage and the congregational voices start to overtake the band in volume (our sound techs often have to increase the band’s volume to keep up). It’s inspiring to be part of a church that eagerly and earnestly loves worshipping God through song.

What do you like to do for fun?

I really love good conversations over good food. I love being introduced to new foods and how that can be a gateway into learning about different cultures, family traditions, and personal experiences. I love trying new restaurants in town (if you have any recommendations, let me know!). I also recently started baking pies in my spare time and wish blueberries were always in season.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?

Lamentations 3:22-23, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

As a new Christian in high school, I was deeply impacted by that verse, it also contains the title of my favorite hymn, “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” Recently, the book of Haggai has been a great source of hope and inspiration.

Madeline Kim

What is your favorite part of your role on staff? 

I love getting to set up the opportunities for us to encounter God and be transformed by him in our worship services every week.

What do you like to do for fun?

For fun I play games, especially 6-handed euchre and Mahjong, continue to rewatch The West Wing, and also attempt to play tennis.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why? 

Presently, my favorite verse is the whole book of 1 Peter, it feels particularly relevant to life and culture right now.

Brenda Stevens

Interim Children’s Ministry Director

What is your favorite part of your role on staff?

My favorite part of my role on staff is watching children feel at home and connected here. I love the opportunity to be a part of the community building for children and families. The children’s ministry has been a great way for us to feel connected and part of life here at TCBC.

What do you like to do for fun?

For fun I like to spend time with my family, whether it’s traveling or just being at home. I also like to read, especially historical fiction books.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?

My favorite bible verse right now is Matthew 11:28, “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

His presence is my consistent place for rest, hope and joy.

Kris Hamblin

What is your favorite part of your role on staff?

I enjoy supporting the various ministry teams which allows me to see all the exciting things happening at TCBC.
I also enjoy any time I can make a process clearer and more efficient for the benefit of all involved.

What do you like to do for fun?

I enjoy hanging out with my husband Andy and our dogs (especially outdoors), road trips to visit family, and curling up with a good book.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?

“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” Matthew 6:27

This verse calms me at times when I feel anxious or overwhelmed. It reminds me that God is control. I’m not. Worrying does nothing to control the circumstances I’m in.

Jenna Beuttler

What is your favorite part of your role on staff?

I love helping the rest of the staff lead the church, but also I love all of the interaction with the congregation that happens!

What do you like to do for fun?

Currently my favorite thing to do is to watch my daughter explore her new world. Making her laugh is the best part of my day, every day!

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?

2 Corinthians 12:9 “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

I was given that verse many years ago. I love the idea that Christ is sufficient for me. Christ says that I can stop striving for more because I have His power, even when I feel too weak.

Todd Kincaid

What is your favorite part of your role on staff?

The variety of jobs that can come along during my week helps keep the job interesting.

What do you like to do for fun?

Any fun that I enjoy involves being with my wife and kids doing whatever we are doing at that moment.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?

Exodus 33:18 “Moses said, “Show me your glory.”

The raw intimacy of this encounter, the simplicity of the request, and the depth of the answer is staggering.

Karl Knox

What is your favorite part of your role on staff?

The top two things that I enjoy are seeing students enjoying and getting excited about their relationships with one another, and even more-so seeing them engage with and grow in their faith in Jesus Christ.

What do you like to do for fun?

Getting outdoors, playing sports or doing anything active, building or fixing things, singing, watching movies and playing video games, and enjoying the company of other people.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why? 

“Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him down, because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last.” -Acts 12:23

Naturally as a middle school boy, we spent a certain amount of time finding obscure, strange Bible passages and events. This one stuck with me though, at first simply because I hate worms and the thought of being eaten by them was a rather terrifying prospect, but in time realizing the full depth of the verse it has become a constant reminder to be humble in all things – giving God all the glory and praise for all that is good in my life and the world around me, never taking credit for myself.
