Pastor Neil Nelson
I have been blessed to be a part of the ministry of Twin City Bible Church in a number of roles, first as a college student when I volunteered with the student ministry, and now as the minister to students. TCBC was a place for growth and ministry during my college years and I'm so excited to get to be a part of what God is currently doing at TCBC.
I grew up in a loving Christian family and was a part of a church in Chicago with a wonderful children's program. It was after Sunday School, at the age of five, that I prayed with my mom to receive Christ as Savior. In junior high I began to sense a desire to commit my life to vocational ministry. That call was encouraged through many wonderful experiences in serving God and through mentoring relationships in Chicago and here at TCBC.
During my time at the University of Illinois, I got to see God work in great ways in both the student ministry at TCBC and in my ministry with my fraternity brothers at Theta Chi. I graduated from the U of I in 2002 with a degree in history, married my college sweetheart, Erika, two months later and we moved to Louisville, Kentucky to attend Southern Seminary. While in Louisville, I had the privilege of serving as youth pastor and later as youth and associate pastor at Jeffersontown Baptist Church.
I graduated from Southern in May of 2006 with my Masters of Divinity and we made the move back to Urbana when I assumed the role of minister to students at TCBC. Since being back in Urbana, Erika and I have been blessed with a beautiful daughter, who was born in the fall of 2009.
My passion for student ministry is derived from John 15:5. My heart for the TCBC student ministry is to be a place where students come to know Jesus personally, are encouraged to remain in a intimate, personal relationship with Christ, and as a result, bear the fruit of God's work in and through them.
